Why Team Composition Matters
In cat battle games, raw unit power will only take you so far. The players who consistently clear difficult content aren't necessarily those with the rarest cats — they're the ones who understand role balance, enemy counters, and deployment timing. This guide breaks down how to construct a well-rounded lineup from scratch.
The Five Core Roles
Every effective team should cover these five functions:
| Role | Purpose | Example Trait |
|---|---|---|
| Meat Shield | Cheap, fast-recharge tanks that stall enemies | High HP, low cost |
| Mid-Range DPS | Consistent damage dealers with moderate range | Balanced stats |
| Long-Range Sniper | High-damage units that attack safely from distance | High damage, slow attack |
| AoE Clearer | Wipes out swarms of weak enemies simultaneously | Area attack |
| Trait Counter | Deals bonus damage or has immunity against specific enemy traits | Anti-Red, Anti-Black, etc. |
Step 1: Identify the Enemy Lineup
Before building your team, always check the stage's enemy composition. Ask yourself:
- What traits do the enemies have? (Red, Black, Floating, Alien, etc.)
- Are there peons (weak, numerous enemies) or bosses (single, powerful enemies)?
- How much range do the key threats have?
This analysis should dictate at least 2–3 of your unit picks.
Step 2: Lock In Your Shields First
Your meat shields are non-negotiable. Include at least two low-cost, fast-recharging tank units. These keep enemies pushed back while your damage dealers safely attack from range. Without shields, even your strongest attackers get wiped out before they can act.
Step 3: Pick Your Primary Damage Dealer
Choose one or two units as your main source of burst or sustained damage. If the stage has a specific enemy trait, prioritize a trait-counter unit here. If it's a general stage, pick a versatile high-DPS cat with solid range.
Step 4: Fill Support Roles
Once your shields and primary damage dealer are set, round out your team with:
- A long-range unit to safely chip away at tough enemies.
- An AoE unit if peon waves are a problem.
- A utility unit with freeze, slow, or knockback abilities if the stage has a dangerous boss.
Step 5: Check Your Cost Economy
A team full of expensive, slow-recharge units will struggle on long stages. Make sure your lineup includes at least 2–3 cats you can spam continuously. This keeps pressure on the enemy base and ensures you always have units on the field while your heavy hitters recharge.
Common Team-Building Mistakes
- No meat shields: Your attackers die before doing any damage.
- All AoE, no single target: Bosses with high HP survive your wave clears.
- Ignoring enemy traits: You do half damage the whole stage.
- Too many high-cost units: You run out of currency mid-fight.
Practice Makes Perfect
Team building is a skill that improves with experience. After each failed stage, analyze what went wrong — was it a lack of shields? Not enough damage on the boss? Adjust one or two units and try again. Over time, you'll develop an intuition for what each stage demands.
